Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honor in India which Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the major Indian languages recognized by the Sahitya Akademi.
Established in 1954, the award comprises a plaque and a cash prize of Rs. 100,000. The award's purpose is to recognize and promote excellence in Indian writing and also acknowledge new trends.
It functions as an autonomous organization. It was registered as a society on 7 January 1956, under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
Eminent Sanskrit scholar Prabhu Nath Dwivedi has been conferred with prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award 2014 for Sanskrit Language.
He was chosen for his work Kanakalochanaha- a collection of 16 short-stories based upon various Social issues eroding the system.
